What’s Up? Happy 77th birthday, October 1, to Deaf Missionary to the Deaf, Dorothea Francis, Hammond, Indiana. Since the home going of her husband, Jack, her mission field has changed. She no longer travels from church to church but serves right in her home as she communicates with the deaf, and those in need of Christ. She uses her video phone to minister to deaf people from all over the USA. Her mission work continues. Please pray for her strength as she continues to “run the race” for the Lord.
What’s Up? Dr. Jim Vineyard, former pastor (1977 – 2007) of Windsor Hills Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, OK, went home to be with the Lord on October 21, 2017. He was influential in the lives of Deaf men in his ministry who are now serving the Lord. (Picture of deaf men.) Our sympathy to his family.
What’s Up? Missionaries to the Deaf in Peru, Lee and Eva Johnson, (BIMI) report the 22nd celebration of their church’s existence in Chiclayo. They say, “Wow! It’s almost hard to believe that we’ve been in Chiclayo now for over 20 years.” Thank you Lee and Eva for your faithfulness.
What’s Up? Dr. Bruce Kelly and the members of Deaf Baptist Church, Smyrna, Georgia, are grateful for the installation of three projectors to help the deaf see presentations better. A volunteer did the installation and the projectors were products of “Deaf Friendly Vision.”

What’s Up? Dr Fred and Sherrie Adams, Sword Deaf Baptist Ministries, enjoyed a visit from Nancy L Burns Donald (deaf), missionary to the deaf in Peru for almost 40 years. (By the way both Fred and Sherrie are also deaf. This proves again, “The Deaf Can!”) Thank you all for your faithfulness!
What’s Up? Hampshire View Baptist Deaf Church, Silver Spring, Maryland, Pastor Terry Buchholz, will host the Deaf Co-ed Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, February 3, 2018, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The event location is the Benson Gym at the Maryland School for the Deaf, Frederick, Maryland. Event coordinator: Dr. Bo Bynun Struhar.
What’s Up? Congratulations to Missionaries, David & Vicki Bennett (SWM), on their 40th wedding anniversary. Their celebration included the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter and many other very special places. David says, “We’re still in love.”
What’s Up? Deaf Night for Christmas Town at the Creation Museum, Kentucky, is December 16, at 5:00 pm. Christmas Town is free ($5 parking fee) and is great fun!
What’s Up? Buckley Road Baptist Church, 4962 Buckley Rd, Liverpool, NY, will host Deaf Day on January 6, 2018, beginning at 8:30 am. The deaf ministry leader is Mark Falso who is deaf. He invites all in the area to this special day featuring, drama, refreshments, teaching and preaching.
What’s Up? Missionaries to the Deaf in the Philippines, Bob and Brenda Himes (Bill Rice Ranch Missions) are in the states for a short furlough. They have been traveling since August to some of their supporting churches reporting on their work as well as teaching in several deaf ministries. They have also been able to visit their three children and their eight grandchildren. They have available dates in December and January to present their work. What’s Up? Deaf missionaries to Brazil, Michael & Ruth Douglas, and their daughters are finishing their deputation and will be leaving for their field of service in January 2018. They will be commissioned (sent out) by Harvest Baptist Church of the Deaf, Ringgold, Georgia, on Sunday, December 3, 2017, in the 10:45 service. You are welcome to attend
