Recently my heart was heavy, and I was struggling with my emotions, but I did not want to be sad before others. During that time the best thing for me was to run to the Word of God for help. I read, “At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release … because it is called the LORD’s release … thine hand shall release” (Deut. 15:1-3). The three releases help relieve and release my struggles. The Lord knew just what I needed to read and think about! We all have areas in our lives that we need to learn to release and “let it go!” First, we need to let go of worry. Many people worry about things that can never be changed. We worry about our health, money, family situations, and the world situation. We need to let it go and let God work everything out for His honor and glory. Second, we need to let go of our past failures or successes. These things are in the past, so we must release them. We cannot change them or go back to them. We must give them to the Lord. Confess your failures and let Him wash them white as snow with His precious blood. The third thing we need to release and let go are the things others have done to hurt us. God sees everything that has happened. He knows everything. He will deal with those who hurt us. God can take care of the situation better than we can. We should give it to Him and pray for those who have hurt us. The fourth thing we need to release and let go is our children. Even the eagle knows when it is best to push the children out of the nest. I have been struggling with this. The Lord has blessed us with four children. They were with us for what seemed to be a very short time. Now they are grown and gone. I must accept the fact that they are old enough to live on their own. Even though it is hard, I must let them go. The next verses say, “The LORD shall greatly bless thee … Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God” (Deut. 15:4-5). I do desire His blessing upon their lives as they seek to do His will. This means I must let our children go to serve the Lord wherever He calls them – whether it be to another country or to the heart of New York City! But I will leave the light on for them!
