The Person God Uses

(Condensed from SWM Pamphlet SP20)

Why is one person used of God and another is not? Is it personality, education, prayers, devotions, age, talents, or good looks? What makes the difference? The answer is in Hebrews chapter eleven. “By faith” Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, Moses, Joshua and many others followed God. Faith means you believe He is God and you will obey and follow Him. Faith and obedience will produce a servant of God. The greatest need is to simply trust and obey. To obey is better than to sacrifice. More than 80% of the people God used were not prophets, preachers or missionaries. God does not call everyone to preach, but He can use everyone. God has a plan for every Christian. This is a volunteer program. God will not pull, drag, or entice you to serve Him. Do you desire to be used of God? No one else can decide for you. Do you want to be used of the Lord?

Decisions Determine Directions – Directions Determine Destinations

Who God Uses
“But now hath God set (placed) the members every one of them
in the body, as it hath pleased Him.” – 1 Corinthians 12:18

God has placed you in the body (ministry) to serve Him. It says, “As it hath pleased Him,” not you! God places you into His ministry. A piece in a puzzle will only fit into a certain place. You cannot make it fit into another place. God has a place for you. When are you placed in the body? You are placed in the body of Christ at the time of your salvation. God places you in a position to serve Him. A servant does not have the right to pick his position or place. You need to find where you belong. When you find your right place, you will know it. God will use you within your gifts, and abilities. Don’t seek to be what you are not. Don’t try to be a copy when you should be an original. God desires to use you just as you are. There is only one you. You need to volunteer because you want to do it. God will use you if you are willing to obey and follow Him. Who does God use? God will use you when you desire to be used. Only you can disqualify yourself. Do you desire to be used of God? You must volunteer and be willing to accept your place that God has given you. Who does God use? He can use you!

What God Uses
“If there first be a willing mind, it is accepted according to that
a man hath, (can do) and not according to that he hath not (cannot do).”
– II Corinthians 8:12

God uses your personal gifts, abilities and personality. Each person is different. You can increase your abilities for service. Examples: Noah was a carpenter. Moses used a rod. Dorcas used a needle. David used a slingshot. Paul used his education and formal training. What abilities do you have? There are many things you cannot do, but God only wants you to do what you can. God never asks you to do what you cannot do. Some can sing and others cannot. Learn what your abilities are. God uses what you have. You need to do what you can (abilities) for God. God does not ask you to do what you cannot do. What can you do? What are your gifts, skills and abilities? What does God use? God uses your gifts, abilities and talents. What can you do? Are you willing to do what you can?

Where God Uses You
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart (not head); and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
– Proverbs 3:5-6

As you follow the will of God, you will know the ways of God. This is an important rule to follow. As you go, you will know. When you stop going, then you stop knowing the will of God. The Bible does not teach that you should pray for the will of God. You simply need to do what you can and God will direct your paths. When you don’t know the will of God, just do your best to do the last thing He told you to do. Usually, when you are in the will of God, God is silent. He usually speaks when you go in the wrong direction. He will direct your path(s) in the way you should go. Notice that God is in front, clearing the way for you to follow. You just need to go in the right way. He will let you know when you go astray. God will use you wherever you go. He will make the way smooth for you. Trust in the Lord.

When God Uses You
“I beseech you therefore…that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice… And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove …that good…acceptable…perfect, will of God.”
– Romans 12:1-2

After you are saved, you need to present yourself to the Lord for service. The Lord will not force you, but you must volunteer. The Lord wants you more than anything you have. God can use you. God does not use a person who is conformed to this world, but God uses a person who is transformed by the Word. Is there anything at this time between you and God? Confess it and God will forgive and cleanse you (1 John 1:9). God gives new beginnings. You can’t change the past, but you can change the future. God will use you when you present yourself to Him for service.

Why God Uses You
“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned…”
– 2 Timothy 3:14

Lifetime Commitment – The Lord’s first words were, “Follow Me.” Follow means a lifetime commitment not just a few months. The disciples had to forsake nets and family. Following involves forsaking. The disciples forsook family, nets, boats and plans to follow the Lord. The Lord said, “Follow me and I will make you…” You simply need to follow the Leader and He will make you.

Paul started his ministry by saying, “Lord, what will thou have me to do?” (Acts 9:6). He then finished his God-given course and calling (2 Tim. 4:7). Are you willing to say, “Lord, what will thou have me to do?” Then make a lifetime commitment to be used of God as you follow and obey Him.

[ ] “Yes, I desire to be used of God. I will follow and obey Him.”
